Hampshire SCITT Training Programme Update

Our trainees, on both the secondary and primary programmes, have had a good first term and are looking forward to their well-deserved Christmas break.  Some trainees have already secured teaching posts for 2023-2024 in their home schools which is a reflection both of the quality of trainees we have recruited and the current situation regarding teacher recruitment.  As always, partner schools involved in hosting and delivering training days have been hugely impressed by the trainees’ professionalism and commitment to the development of their practice.

The trainees are close to completing and submitting their first PGCE assignment which involves a literature review on a chosen topic, for example the use of praise in managing behaviour and then reflections and evaluations after observing strategies in practice.   Staff from our HEI partner for the award of the PGCE, the University of Reading, have continued to provide first-class preparation and assignment feedback to our trainees

This year, mindful of mentors’ workload and cover constraints in schools, we are delivering mentor training through short twilight sessions, two 45-minute sessions each term with themes linked to the trainees’ progression and needs through the programme. Feedback from mentors show that they like this pattern of delivery and they are finding the sessions very useful.  For each session, we send out pre-read booklets and after the session, mentors receive the session PowerPoint and any supporting materials.

We have started recruiting for our 2023-2024 training programme for both primary and secondary.  Information for applicants is on the SCITT website:
